Zhuri James: Beyond The Basketball Legacy

When people look at the youngest child of an NBA icon, they usually expect a carbon copy of their parent's athletic path. Yet Zhuri James is carving out an entirely different identity in the sports and digital world. Born to Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and businesswoman Savannah James, Zhuri has grown up in the public eye, transitioning from a viral toddler on YouTube to a standout young athlete making her own headlines.

Instead of following her older brothers Bronny and Bryce into competitive basketball, Zhuri found her passion on the volleyball court. Supported by a family that values individuality, she balances competitive club sports, digital content creation, and academic life at Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles.

Early Life and Growing Up in the Spotlight

Born on October 22, 2014, Zhuri Nova James arrived as the third and youngest child of LeBron and Savannah James. Her name holds special meaning; "Zhuri" translates to good or pleasing in Swahili, while "Nova" signifies something new. From infancy, her presence generated widespread media coverage, as fans followed milestones shared by her parents across social media platforms.

Growing up between Ohio and Los Angeles, Zhuri spent much of her early childhood visiting basketball arenas and supporting her father from the sidelines. However, her parents made a deliberate effort to give her space to explore her own creative interests outside of professional athletics. The YouTube Era: All Things Zhuri

Before entering middle school, Zhuri launched her own digital footprint with a YouTube channel titled All Things Zhuri. Managed with her parents' oversight, the channel gave fans a window into her daily hobbies, including baking tutorials, painting sessions, and yoga routines.

Baking Projects: Showcased simple treats and kitchen experiments.
Creative Arts: Highlighted painting and hands-on DIY crafts.
Mindfulness: Included youth-friendly yoga and wellness routines.

The channel quickly surpassed hundreds of thousands of subscribers, proving that Zhuri possessed a natural charisma and on-camera presence long before she started competitive sports.

Shifting Focus to Volleyball

While basketball runs deep in the James family lineage, LeBron and Savannah made it clear that Zhuri's athletic future belongs to a different court. LeBron revealed in interviews that his wife, Savannah, was finished with the demands of competitive basketball culture, joking that another basketball player in the household wasn't an option.

Instead, Zhuri committed to competitive volleyball, joining the SZN Volleyball club team. Her transition to the sport has drawn strong praise from coaches and spectators alike. In early 2026, Zhuri made headlines by delivering the ceremonial first serve at the League One Volleyball (LOVB) Championship in Long Beach, California. Stepping in front of a packed arena, she cleanly sent the ball over the net, later trying her hand at sports journalism by conducting a lighthearted interview with professional player Skylar Fields.

Balancing Family, School, and Public Life

Despite her high-profile upbringing, Zhuri maintains a relatively normal adolescent routine. She attends Sierra Canyon School, where she balances her academic responsibilities with rigorous volleyball training.

LeBron James has frequently spoken about how having Zhuri accompany him on select NBA road trips has changed his perspective during the later stages of his career. Dubbed a good-luck charm by her father, Zhuri occasionally captures attention during pre-game warmups with viral trick shots or basketball handles, reminding fans that she inherited plenty of athletic coordination even if her competitive ambitions lie elsewhere.
