Yuji Itadori stands 173 cm (5 feet 8 inches) tall according to official character data from Jujutsu Kaisen Wiki. As the primary protagonist of the series, his physical stature places him right around the average mark for a teenage male in Japan, though his dense muscle mass and superhuman athletic baseline make him far heavier than he looks at 80 kg (176 lbs).
Understanding Yuji's physical specifications gives you a clearer picture of how author Gege Akutami balanced his character design against towering sorcerers like Satoru Gojo and Aoi Todo. Let's break down his exact measurements, how he stacks up against his peers, and why his build matters for his fighting style.
Official Character Profile and Body Stats
When Yuji is introduced at the start of the series, he's a 15-year-old first-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High. His physical specs reflect an extraordinarily fit teenager who shattered track and field records before ever touching cursed energy.
- Height: 173 cm (5 feet 8 inches)
- Weight: 80 kg (176 lbs)
- Birthday: March 20, 2003
- Age: 15 (early series)
His weight catches many fans off guard. At 5'8", weighing 176 pounds of lean mass means Yuji has an exceptionally dense, muscular build. This explains why he can hurl lead shot put balls like cricket balls and punch clean through concrete walls without relying entirely on cursed energy amplification.
How Yuji Compares to Other Jujutsu Kaisen Characters
Context matters when looking at anime character heights. While 5'8" sounds modest next to modern shonen protagonists who tower over everyone, Yuji sits comfortably in the middle tier of the Jujutsu Kaisen cast.
- Megumi Fushiguro: Stands at 175 cm (5'9"), making him just slightly taller than Yuji.
- Nobara Kugisaki: Stands at 160 cm (5'3"), giving their iconic first-year trio a balanced visual progression.
- Satoru Gojo: Looms large at over 190 cm (6'3"), turning Yuji into a frequent target for head pats and carrying.
- Aoi Todo: Matches the heavyweight category at over 190 cm (6'3"), creating a striking contrast during their combat training sessions.
Compared to standard shonen archetypes who grow significantly during time skips, Yuji's physical frame remains grounded, emphasizing close-quarters combat agility over sheer vertical reach.
Why Yuji's Height Fits His Fighting Style
Gege Akutami designed Yuji's physical proportions with martial arts and hand-to-hand combat in mind. Being 5'8" gives him a lower center of gravity, which is crucial for the explosive martial arts and striking techniques he uses alongside Divergent Fist and Black Flash.
If he were built like Gojo or Todo, close-range grappling against agile cursed spirits would look entirely different. His compact, thick frame allows for fast changes of direction, rapid acceleration, and high-impact kinetic output in tight spaces. Common Misconceptions About Yuji's Growth
Fans frequently debate whether Yuji grows taller by the end of the manga's run. Because the narrative deals with intense physical trauma, transformations, and body sharing with Ryomen Sukuna, readers often confuse visual perspective tricks in panels with actual growth spurts.
Gege Akutami's official databooks and volume profiles maintain his height at 173 cm. While his muscle mass fluctuates due to combat stress and narrative events, his baseline skeletal height doesn't shift dramatically, keeping him true to his everyday teenager roots.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Yuji stop growing during the series?
No canonical time skip features a revised official height for Yuji. He stays at his baseline height of 173 cm throughout the core events of the manga.
Is 173 cm considered tall in Japan?
For a 15-year-old boy, 173 cm (5'8") is above average. For an adult Japanese male, it lands right around the national average, making Yuji's height very realistic for an ordinary high schooler.
Why is Yuji so heavy if he's only 5'8"?
His high weight of 80 kg (176 lbs) comes down to dense muscle mass. His pre-existing athletic prowess meant he carried an extraordinary amount of functional muscle before entering the world of jujutsu sorcery.
How does Yuji compare to Sukuna's height?
When Ryomen Sukuna takes control of Yuji's body, he utilizes Yuji's physical vessel, meaning Sukuna is restricted to Yuji's 5'8" height during those moments, unlike Sukuna's original Heian-era four-armed body.
