Shohei Ohtani has won multiple World Series titles with the Los Angeles Dodgers, capturing his maiden championship in 2024 and following it up with a second title in 2025. After spending his early Major League Baseball career with the Los Angeles Angels without reaching the postseason, his high-profile move across town immediately translated into championship success.
Understanding Ohtani's championship journey requires looking at how he transitioned from an individual superstar with the Angels to a team-focused winner in the postseason. Behind the scenes, figures like his longtime support network and staff shared in the emotional culmination of years of hard work.
The Path to Victory: Ohtani's First World Series Title
When Ohtani signed a record-breaking contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers ahead of the 2024 season, his primary motivation was clear: he wanted to play competitive October baseball. That goal was realized immediately. In his first year with the franchise, the Dodgers powered through the National League and advanced to the Fall Classic.
During the 2024 World Series against the New York Yankees, Ohtani played through physical adversity, managing a shoulder subluxation sustained earlier in the postseason. Despite not being at 100 percent, he anchored the Dodgers' lineup as a premier designated hitter, driving the offense alongside Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman. The Dodgers clinched the series in five games, securing Ohtani's first career championship ring.
Sustaining Excellence: The 2025 Repeat
Winning one championship cemented Ohtani's legacy, but the Dodgers weren't done. In 2025, Ohtani added another historic chapter to his resume by helping guide Los Angeles to back-to-back World Series titles. Serving both as an elite hitter and working his way back toward full two-way capabilities, his presence on the roster made the Dodgers a dominant dynasty. Earning National League Championship Series MVP honors along the way, Ohtani proved that his initial championship was no fluke.
How Ohtani's Play Changed the Postseason Dynamic
For years, critics wondered if the sport's most unique talent would ever get the chance to perform on its biggest stage. During his six seasons with the Angels (2018–2023), the team failed to secure a winning record, keeping Ohtani out of October entirely despite historic individual numbers like his unanimous MVP campaigns.
- Immediate Impact: Moving to the Dodgers placed him in a competitive culture built for deep playoff runs.
- Resilience Under Pressure: Playing through injuries in high-stakes games demonstrated his commitment to team success over personal comfort.
- Global Audience: His playoff performances drew millions of new international viewers to Major League Baseball, expanding the sport's footprint.
Common Misconceptions About Ohtani's Career
Fans frequently confuse his international success with his MLB milestones. Before coming to North America, Ohtani won a Japan Series championship with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters in 2016. However, his first Major League Baseball World Series win didn't happen until 2024 with the Dodgers.
Another common point of confusion involves his two-way role during the 2024 Fall Classic. While he pitched brilliantly during the regular season earlier in his career, an elbow procedure limited him strictly to the batting order during that specific postseason run, though his bat alone was enough to overwhelm opposing pitching staffs.
