Sekiro Snap Seeds Guide: Locations And Best Uses
In this story

Sekiro Snap Seeds are rare quick items designed to dispel illusions and deal heavy posture damage to apparition-type enemies. While you can finish a playthrough without ever touching one, knowing where to find them and when to use them turns some of the game's toughest boss fights into manageable encounters.

If you're struggling with Lady Butterfly's phantom summons or looking to farm these items efficiently, you'll need to look beyond fixed world pickups. Here is the complete breakdown of where to find every world pick-up, how to farm them, and exactly when to use them for maximum impact.

Where to Find Fixed Snap Seed Locations

The game scatters a limited number of Snap Seeds across different regions before you unlock infinite purchases later. Gathering these early gives you vital tools for the mid-game.

Hirata Estate

  • Inosuke's Gift: Right before the boss arena for Lady Butterfly, speak to the injured NPC leaning against a wall inside the burning building (near the Hirata Audience Chamber idol) to receive one.
  • Pond Area: You can find another seed on a small boat near the first water pond where the Pot Noble resides.

Ashina Outskirts

  • The Great Serpent Area: Shortly after the Chained Ogre and General Tenzen Yamauchi, you'll navigate the stealth section with the Great Serpent. Once you hide in the small tent and successfully stab the serpent's eye, check the cliff edge outside the tent to find a bundle of five seeds.
  • Stairway Ledge: From the Outskirts Wall - Stairway idol, head backward down the path behind the roosters to find two balloons and hidden items.

Sunken Valley

  • Gun Fort Room: Inside the large room leading to the Gun Fort idol, clear out the heavy gunners. A bundle of three seeds sits right on top of the central wooden platform.
  • Riven Cave: Head outside from the Riven Cave idol toward the Buddha statues. Look down from the path to spot a monkey guarding an item, yielding another three seeds.
  • Toxic Memorial Mob: Descend further down toward the poison pool area where the Toxic Memorial Mob vendor stands to pick up an extra seed near the cave entrance.

Ashina Depths and Hidden Forest

  • Hidden Forest Ledge: Past the Mist Noble, navigate through the fog and use the trees to reach a huggable wall. Climbing up leads to a hidden Snap Seed.

How to Farm Snap Seeds

World pick-ups run out quickly, but you aren't entirely out of luck if you exhaust them. Sunken Valley monkeys have a rare drop chance for Snap Seeds.

To farm them effectively, start at the Gun Fort Sculptor's Idol and work your way backward through the tunnel, eliminating the gunners and monkeys. Equipping the Demon Bell or consuming a Gokan's Sugar can help streamline the process, though the drop rate is low, making stealth backstabs essential to save time.

Once you defeat the True Corrupted Monk in Fountainhead Palace, merchants including Fujioka the Info Broker and the Dungeon Memorial Mob begin selling Snap Seeds in infinite quantities for 80 sen each. This makes late-game farming obsolete, but you'll need to rely on world finds and monkey drops for early bosses.

When and How to Use Snap Seeds Effectively

Using a Snap Seed requires equipping it to your active inventory and pressing the item button. The item creates an AOE (area of effect) ring around Wolf. Timing matters because the animation leaves you vulnerable to counter-attacks.

Phase Two Lady Butterfly

Lady Butterfly summons dozens of glowing spectral illusions during her second phase. Popping a Snap Seed near a cluster instantly banishes them. Furthermore, doing this disrupts her ability to convert those phantoms into guided light butterflies at the end of the spell. Stand near the center of the room when she snaps her fingers to catch the maximum number of phantoms in the blast.

Corrupted Monk Illusion

In Mibu Village, the ghostly Corrupted Monk can be stunned by Snap Seeds. Throwing one near her interrupts her posture and leaves her open to a few free strikes. Note that this trick only works three times per fight; subsequent uses yield no stagger effect.

Hidden Forest Spirits

The transparent apparition enemies haunting the Hidden Forest disappear instantly when caught in a Snap Seed's radius, saving you the headache of fighting invisible foes while suffering from terror buildup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Snap Seeds work on the True Corrupted Monk?

They only work on specific shadow illusions summoned during particular phases, and they do not provide the massive stun effect that they do against the Mibu Village illusion.

Can I buy infinite Snap Seeds early in the game?

No. Infinite vendor stock only unlocks after defeating the True Corrupted Monk in Fountainhead Palace, which happens much later in the story.

Are Snap Seeds required to beat Lady Butterfly?

No. You can easily beat Lady Butterfly without them by running in wide circles around the pillars until she dismisses her phantoms into tracking energy bolts, then hiding behind a wooden pillar to block the projectiles.

Why didn't the Snap Seed work when I pressed it?

The range is relatively small, and the startup animation has a slight delay. If you use it too far away from targets or get hit mid-animation, the effect is wasted.
