Sasaki, known as "Overflowing Sasaki", serves as a prominent antagonist in the One Piece series during the Wano Country Arc. He operates as one of the Tobi Roppo—the six strongest officers among Kaido's Beasts Pirates—and leads the crew's Armored Division. Before joining Kaido's forces, he captained his own independent crew, the Sasaki Pirates.
Background and Rise in the Beasts Pirates
Sasaki boasts a fish-man heritage (specifically a blue-spine unicornfish fish-man), which grants him natural physical strength and durability that far exceed ordinary human limits. Long before arriving on Onigashima, he captained the Sasaki Pirates. At some point, his crew was absorbed or defeated, leading him to align with the Beasts Pirates.
Within Kaido's hierarchy, Sasaki held the rank of Headliner and Shinuchi before rising to the elite Tobi Roppo rank. Like his fellow officer Who's-Who, Sasaki held grand ambitions. He didn't join Kaido out of pure loyalty; instead, he eyed an opportunity to usurp the current All-Stars (King or Queen) and take their place. When Kaido tasked the Tobi Roppo with tracking down his runaway son Yamato, Sasaki agreed primarily because Kaido promised that whoever found Yamato would earn the right to challenge an All-Star for promotion.
The Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Triceratops
Sasaki consumed the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Triceratops (Dragon-Dragon Fruit, Triceratops Model), an Ancient Zoan-type Devil Fruit. This fruit allows him to transform into a hybrid or full triceratops at will.
- Enhanced Physical Power: Like other Ancient Zoan fruits, it drastically multiplies the user's physical strength, speed, and endurance, making their hide tough enough to withstand heavy artillery.
- Helicopter Flight: Sasaki utilized his Devil Fruit in a unique, unorthodox way during the raid on Onigashima. By rapidly spinning his bony triceratops neck frill like a helicopter rotor, he generated enough lift to fly through the air and execute aerial attacks.
- Grasping Weakness: His heavy plating provided immense defense, but his transformation left his soft underbelly exposed when he overextended his charges.
Weapons and Fighting Style
In combat, Sasaki paired his monstrous Ancient Zoan abilities with a customized sword called Karakuri Rasento (Mechanical Spiral Sword).
- The Spiral Blade: The sword featured small blade flaps perpendicular to the main edge. When activated, a mechanical internal system caused the blade to spin at high speeds like a portable drill.
- Aerial Swordplay: By combining his spinning sword with his helicopter flight form, Sasaki unleashed sweeping, devastating multi-angle strikes designed to shred enemy defenses and armor.
- Haki Usage: As a high-ranking officer in a Yonko crew, he possessed mastery over Busoshoku (Armament) and Kenbunshoku (Observation) Haki, though he heavily favored relying on his brute physical power and Devil Fruit transformations in battle.
The Onigashima Raid and Defeat
During the Fire Festival raid on Onigashima, Sasaki crossed paths with the Straw Hat Pirates and ultimately locked horns with Franky.
Sasaki deployed his full armored division, sub-commanders, and hybrid triceratops form to corner Franky inside his General Franky mech. The clash pushed Franky to his absolute limits, forcing the cyborg to abandon his damaged suit mid-fight to evade a devastating charging attack. Seizing the opening when Sasaki's belly was exposed, Franky delivered back-to-back finishing moves—culminating in the Franky Radical Beam—which pierced straight through Sasaki's defenses and secured victory for the Straw Hats.
Official Bounty
The World Government assigned Sasaki a bounty of 472,000,000 Berries. This substantial figure reflected his dangerous history as a former pirate captain, his fish-man physiology, his Ancient Zoan combat prowess, and the direct threat he posed as a high-ranking commander within the Beasts Pirates.
