Catching live Boston Celtics and New England Patriots coverage requires knowing exactly where to look on your channel lineup. If you subscribe to Verizon Fios in the New England area, NBC Sports Boston sits on channel 77 for standard definition, with high-definition broadcasts available on channel 577. Depending on your specific regional package box or interactive guide version, you might also spot it on channel 1526.
Regional sports networks change positions occasionally based on provider updates and local market boundaries. Finding the right number is only half the battle. You also need to verify that your specific Fios TV tier includes regional sports programming, set up your streaming apps correctly, and troubleshoot common blackouts. Let's break down everything you need to watch local New England sports seamlessly.
Finding NBC Sports Boston on Verizon Fios
Verizon organizes its channel guide by genre, placing sports networks in the 70-99 and 570-599 blocks. NBC Sports Boston anchors itself firmly in this tier for subscribers living within the regional broadcast footprint.
If you live outside core Massachusetts markets—such as parts of Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, or Connecticut—your channel availability might vary due to league broadcast rules. Always check your on-screen guide or visit the Verizon Support Center to confirm regional tiers. For additional background on this development, in-depth reporting can be read on The New York Times.

What to Watch on NBC Sports Boston
NBC Sports Boston serves as the primary television home for several major New England sports franchises and regional studio programming. Knowing what airs on the network helps you avoid missing tip-offs, pre-game shows, and post-game analysis.
Boston Celtics Coverage
The network broadcasts extensive live coverage surrounding the Boston Celtics. While national games air on ESPN, ABC, or TNT, regional pre-game shows, post-game breakdowns, and select game broadcasts appear directly on NBC Sports Boston. You'll get deep tactical analysis, player interviews, and shows like Celtics Outsiders.
New England Sports News and Talk
Beyond live game action, the station runs daily sports commentary covering local teams. Shows focus heavily on the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, and Boston Bruins, offering local perspectives that national sports networks often skip.
Streaming NBC Sports Boston Without a Cable Box
You don't always need to sit in front of your living room television to watch your favorite teams. Verizon Fios subscribers can stream content on mobile devices, tablets, and connected TVs using digital authentication.

Troubleshooting Missing Channels and Blackouts
Sports fans often run into frustrating viewing blocks. Knowing why a stream or channel isn't working saves valuable game-time minutes.
Regional Blackout Rules
Major sports leagues enforce strict blackout restrictions to protect local broadcast rights. If you live outside the designated New England television territory, live games for teams like the Celtics may be blocked on NBC Sports Boston. Conversely, if you live inside the market, out-of-market streaming services like NBA League Pass will black out local games, forcing you to watch them on your local Fios channel instead.
Missing Channel Fixes
- Reboot your set-top box: Unplug your Verizon Fios box for thirty seconds, plug it back in, and wait for the guide data to reload.
- Check your subscription tier: Lower-cost streaming-only Fios packages sometimes exclude regional sports fees. Check your monthly bill to ensure your package includes regional sports channels.
- Scan for guide updates: Press the "Guide" or "Settings" button on your Verizon remote to force an update if channel numbers appear jumbled.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is NBC Sports Boston included in all Verizon Fios plans?
No. Regional sports networks are typically included in mid-to-high tier Fios TV plans (such as Your Fios TV or More Fios TV), but base entry-level streaming packages may exclude them to lower costs.
Can I watch NBC Sports Boston out of state?
In-app streaming via mobile devices works nationwide, but live game broadcasts may be subject to regional blackouts depending on your physical location and league broadcasting contracts.
Why is channel 577 showing a black screen?
A black screen usually indicates an unauthorized channel tier, a temporary broadcast interruption, or a regional blackout for a specific live sporting event. Try restarting your set-top box or checking the official team schedule.
How do I add regional sports networks to my Verizon plan?
Log into your online Verizon account dashboard, navigate to the "Change Plan" or "Add-ons" section, and select TV package modifications to add regional sports coverage to your current lineup.
