Miranda Cosgrove is 33 years old. Born on September 8, 1992, in Los Angeles, California, she stepped into the spotlight as a child actor before landing her signature starring role as Carly Shay in the hit Nickelodeon sitcom iCarly, which premiered in 2007.
The competitor page stumbles through a bizarre AI-generated haze, misidentifying her character as "Janet," calling her a "Norlin teenager," and getting her age wrong based on outdated 2024 publication dates. Viewers searching for her age want a clean, accurate birthdate, a straightforward timeline of her career milestones, and context regarding how old she was during her most famous television appearances. Let's clear up the confusion with verified facts.
Early Life and Discovery
Born to Tom Cosgrove, a dry-cleaning business owner, and Chris, a homemaker, Cosgrove was discovered at age three eating in an upscale Los Angeles restaurant called Taste of L.A. A talent agent spotted her singing and dancing, which immediately led to commercial modeling auditions for brands like McDonald's and Burger King.
By her early pre-teen years, she transitioned into acting. Her major film debut arrived in 2003 when she played the precise, rule-following band manager Summer Hathaway in Richard Linklater's comedy film School of Rock. Working alongside Jack Black gave her early exposure to major studio filmmaking and set the foundation for a long career in family entertainment.
The iCarly Years: Age and Timeline
Her career defining moment came when she was cast as Carly Shay in iCarly, created by Dan Schneider for Nickelodeon.
- Pilot Production (2006): Production on the pilot episode began in early 2006 when Cosgrove was 13 years old.
- Series Premiere (September 2007): By the time the show officially debuted on television screens, she had turned 15.
- Series Wrap (2012): When the original run concluded after five seasons in June 2012, she was 18 years old and preparing for college.
During the height of iCarly, she balanced demanding shooting schedules with private tutoring. She famously celebrated her high school graduation on the Paramount lot while still filming the final seasons of the show.
Higher Education and Transition to Adult Roles
Unlike many child stars who struggle to navigate the transition out of youth television, Cosgrove balanced her education with ongoing industry work.
She enrolled at the University of Southern California (USC) in 2012, initially studying film before switching her major to psychology. Balancing higher education with a professional acting schedule required careful planning. She continued voicing the character Margo in the Despicable Me franchise, a role she began in 2010 when she was 17 and reprised across multiple sequels well into her twenties and thirties.
When Paramount+ announced a revival of iCarly in 2020, Cosgrove returned not only as the lead star but also as an executive producer. The revival ran for three seasons from 2021 to 2023, showcasing a more mature, adult perspective on the classic characters. During this production window, she was in her late twenties and early thirties, marking a full-circle moment for viewers who grew up watching the original broadcast.
