Is Mike Doocy related to Steve Doocy? Viewers often ask this question when watching cable news, assuming a family connection because they share a rare surname and work in the television industry. Let's clear up the confusion right away: Mike Doocy is not related to Steve Doocy.
While Steve Doocy is a longtime fixture on Fox News, anchoring Fox & Friends, Mike Doocy is a veteran sports director and news anchor based at KDFW Fox 4 in Dallas, Texas. They don't share a father-son or brotherly bond, despite internet rumors and AI-generated articles claiming otherwise. The confusion usually stems from mixing up Mike Doocy with Peter Doocy, Steve's actual son who serves as the White House correspondent for Fox News.
Sorting Out the Doocy Family Tree
To understand why viewers get mixed up, it helps to look at who is actually related in the broadcasting world. Steve Doocy has been married to Kathy Gerrity Doocy since 1986. Together, they have three children: Peter, Mary, Sally, and Bridget.
Peter Doocy followed his father's footsteps directly into the Fox News channel. He joined the network as a general assignment reporter in 2009 and later rose to prominence covering presidential administrations. Because Peter and Steve share the same last name and work for the same employer, viewers naturally associate them as father and son.
Mike Doocy, on the other hand, works hundreds of miles away from the New York studios where Fox & Friends is filmed. He has spent decades building his career in local television in Texas, far away from the national morning show desk.
Where the Confusion Began
Internet search queries often conflate local news talent with national network stars. Because Mike Doocy works as a prominent sports anchor for a Fox affiliate station (KDFW in Dallas), casual viewers see the "Fox" connection and assume he belongs to the same immediate family as Steve.
Content farms have made this worse by publishing AI-generated articles that scramble facts. Some poorly researched pages claim Mike is married to Steve's sister, or that they are brothers-in-law. None of these claims hold up against reality. Steve Doocy's actual family is well-documented, and Mike Doocy has no known blood or marital relation to Steve or Peter.
Career Paths of the Different Doocys
Comparing their career paths highlights how distinct their professional lives are.
Steve Doocy started his broadcast journey in the late 1970s and 1980s, working as a reporter and anchor for various local stations before landing at Good Morning America as a feature reporter. He moved to Fox News in 1996 and helped launch Fox & Friends in 1998, where he remains a staple anchor.
Peter Doocy graduated from Villanova University and immediately began working for Fox News. His career centers around political journalism, campaign trails, and White House briefings.
Mike Doocy established his reputation in local sports broadcasting. He covers local sports teams, high school football, and regional athletic events in Texas, earning numerous regional awards for his sports coverage. He doesn't appear on national programs like Fox & Friends.
