Is Julia Roberts still alive? Yes, the Academy Award-winning actress is alive, well, and actively working in the entertainment industry. False reports and clickbait death hoaxes occasionally circulate on social media networks, but they carry no truth.
Celebrity death hoaxes have become a persistent online nuisance, usually generated by shady clickbait networks or phishing scams designed to grab attention or compromise user devices. Let's break down where these rumors come from, look at her actual current career projects, and explain how to spot fake celebrity news online.
The Source of Celebrity Death Rumors
Internet death hoaxes rarely happen by accident. They typically stem from a few predictable sources:
- Clickbait Ad Networks: Shady websites publish sensationalized headlines about famous actors to drive frantic traffic and generate ad revenue.
- Malware Scams: Some social media posts claim a beloved star has passed away, pairing the fake news with a link that attempts to download malicious software or steal login credentials.
- Name Confusion: Rumors sometimes spark when a lesser-known actor, crew member, or public figure with a similar name passes away, and sensationalist blogs intentionally blur the details.
- Social Media Misinterpretation: Out-of-context throwback photos or tribute videos posted by fans can easily trick scrolling users into thinking a tragedy occurred.
Fact-checking organizations like Snopes have repeatedly debunked fabricated social media posts claiming that major public figures like Julia Roberts have passed away.
What Julia Roberts Is Working On Now
Instead of fading away, Roberts remains heavily engaged in film, theater, and public life. She continues to select high-profile projects and make regular appearances at major cultural events.
Her recent schedule demonstrates a vibrant, ongoing career:
- Broadway and Theater: Tickets went on sale for her upcoming Broadway run in Bess Wohl's play Small Mouth Sounds, directed by Joe Mantello at the Barrymore Theatre.
- Major Public Appearances: She made headlines on the red carpet at the Golden Globes, showcasing her signature style in custom designer pieces alongside major beauty houses like Lancôme.

How to Verify Celebrity Death Claims Online
When you see a shocking headline about a celebrity on social media, don't click right away. Protect your devices and your peace of mind by following these quick verification habits:
- Check Major News Outlets: If a major global icon passes away, wire services like the Associated Press, Reuters, or major entertainment trades like Variety and The Hollywood Reporter will publish comprehensive obituaries immediately.
- Inspect the URL: Look closely at the web address sharing the news. If it's an unfamiliar blog with random letters or a strange domain extension, it's a scam.
- Search Fact-Checking Sites: Type the celebrity's name alongside terms like "death hoax" or check dedicated tracking pages on established fact-checking databases.
- Look for Recent Activity: Check if the star has active upcoming projects or recent public appearances that contradict the timeline of the rumor.
