As of 2026, Holidate 2 does not exist, and Netflix has not greenlit or scheduled a sequel to the 2020 romantic comedy starring Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey. While speculative fan trailers and internet rumors circulate frequently, the original film remains a standalone release. If you're searching for streaming options, the first movie is fully available on Netflix, but any listing claiming to offer a sequel stream is either referencing fan-made concept videos or clickbait.
Understanding the actual production status saves you time and clears up widespread online confusion. Let's look at what's currently available, why rumors persist, and how the original film's creators envisioned a potential follow-up.
Streaming Availability for the Holidate Franchise
The streaming landscape for the Holidate property is straightforward because only one official film was produced.
- Holidate (2020): Stream exclusively on Netflix with a standard subscription. It is not currently included on other major subscription platforms or available for free ad-supported streaming.
- Holidate 2: Unavailable on any platform because production has never begun.
If search engines direct you to sites claiming to host a full movie stream for a sequel, exercise caution. These pages often exploit search traffic by using automated descriptions or fan art to mimic official release pages.
Why Fans Keep Searching for a Sequel
The first film ended on a classic romantic comedy note, with Sloane and Jackson embracing their real feelings after a year of acting as platonic holiday dates. Viewers naturally wondered what happened next. Tiffany Paulsen, the writer of the original movie, shared concepts in past interviews about where a second chapter could go. She even floated the idea of taking the characters to Australia to meet Jackson's family, playfully suggesting titles like Holimates.
However, expressing creative interest during press junkets is very different from a studio signing contracts. Neither Netflix nor Roberts and Bracey have announced active development schedules for a continuation.
Spotting Fake Sequel Rumors and Concept Trailers
A major reason viewers land on speculative pages is the proliferation of AI-generated concept trailers on video platforms. Channels often piece together clips from Roberts' and Bracey's other projects, overlay festive music, and label the video with titles like Holidate 2: When Pretending Ends.
- Check the cast lists: Real casting announcements appear through trade publications like Variety or The Hollywood Reporter, not unverified social media channels.
- Look at the production logos: Fan edits rarely feature official Netflix promotional banners or verified press releases from the Netflix Media Center.
- Verify release dates: Legitimate films have fixed premiere dates announced months in advance by official studio channels.
What to Watch Instead on Netflix
If you want a similar holiday rom-com vibe while waiting to see if a sequel ever materializes, several alternatives match the tone, sarcasm, and festive atmosphere of the original film.
- Love Hard: Features a similar setup of deception and forced proximity during the winter holidays, starring Nina Dobrev and Jimmy O. Yang.
- Falling for Christmas: Delivers classic festive cheer and predictable romantic tropes led by Lindsay Lohan.
- The Holiday Calendar: Explores romantic developments tied to traditional countdowns and seasonal milestones.
