When basketball fans look at Purdue University standout and NBA center Zach Edey, they often wonder where he inherited his towering stature. The answer leads directly to his father, Glen Edey. While internet rumor mills occasionally spin tall tales or conflate names, understanding Glen Edey height provides clear context into the genetics behind one of modern basketball's most imposing figures. Glen Edey stands at an impressive height of roughly six feet and five inches (about 1.96 meters), a substantial measurement that explains much about his family's genetic baseline.
Interest in Glen Edey height surged alongside his son's meteoric rise through college basketball and into the professional ranks. This guide breaks down the real numbers, separates verified biographical facts from online fiction, and explores how family genetics shape athletic achievement in the Edey household.
The Real Numbers Behind Glen Edey Height
While viral posts and poorly generated web pages sometimes exaggerate sports-family measurements into absurd territory, reliable sports journalism and family profiles place Glen Edey at approximately 6 feet 5 inches tall. Standing well above the average adult male height of roughly 5 feet 9 inches in North America, Glen cuts a commanding figure in any room.
This stature wasn't an accident of isolated genetics. Height in the Edey family runs deep on both sides. Glen's wife, Julia Edey—Zach's mother—played college basketball in Canada and stands around 6 feet tall. When you combine a 6-foot-5 father with a 6-foot mother, the biological probability of producing an exceptionally tall offspring increases significantly.
Genetics, Basketball, and Family Background
Physical stature is polygenic, meaning it's influenced by multiple genes interacting across DNA strands rather than a single hereditary switch. The combination of Glen and Julia Edey's heights created a genetic foundation that allowed their children to reach heights well outside statistical norms.
Zach Edey famously grew to 7 feet 4 inches during his basketball career, a height that dwarfs even his father's impressive 6-foot-5 frame. Younger family members and siblings also inherited traits favoring athletic builds. Glen's own background is rooted in everyday life and support rather than professional sports stardom, making his role primarily that of a dedicated parent supporting an elite athlete through grueling travel, training schedules, and high-pressure tournament brackets.
Common Misconceptions and Internet Rumors
Because automated content farms often scrape and scramble sports data, readers frequently encounter bizarre claims online. Some low-quality pages confuse Glen Edey with former athletes from entirely different eras or invent fictional basketball careers.
- The 7-Foot Myth: Some automated articles mistakenly claim Glen Edey himself stood 7 feet tall. In reality, that description belongs strictly to his son, Zach.
- Professional Playing Career: While Glen supported his sons in sports, he did not play professional basketball in the 1950s as some garbled AI articles suggest. His involvement centers on family support and a normal career path outside the professional sports spotlight.
- Medical Anomalies: Internet searches sometimes speculate about unusual growth conditions. Medical context confirms that tall statures in families like the Edeys are standard familial traits rather than pathological growth disorders.
