If you're wondering whether Forza Horizon 4 on PlayStation 4 is a reality, the short answer is no. Playground Games and Microsoft Studios never released Forza Horizon 4 for the Sony PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5. The title remains a first-party exclusive for Xbox consoles and Windows PC, meaning you won't find an official port or digital listing on the PlayStation Network store.
Understanding why this cross-platform boundary exists requires looking at how Microsoft manages its premier racing franchise. For years, the Forza series has served as a primary hardware seller for the Xbox ecosystem. Because Microsoft owns the intellectual property and development studios behind the game, console availability is restricted to platforms that integrate directly with Xbox services.
Why Forza Horizon 4 Never Came to PS4
Sony and Microsoft maintain separate, closed software ecosystems for their flagship consoles. While the industry has shifted toward cross-play and multi-platform launches for select titles, major first-party franchises still function as platform anchors.
- First-Party Ownership: Playground Games operates as an internal studio under Xbox Game Studios. Their development funding, licensing agreements, and publishing pipelines tie directly into Microsoft's infrastructure.
- Ecosystem Integration: The game relies heavily on Xbox Live, Xbox achievements, and cross-play features tied to Microsoft accounts. Bringing this framework natively to a competing hardware architecture requires deep technical restructuring that Microsoft reserves for its own hardware and PC markets.
- Licensing Realities: Beyond platform restrictions, Forza Horizon 4 faced strict third-party vehicle and music licensing limits. These agreements eventually led to the game's official delisting from digital storefronts, making new ports structurally impossible.
Current Platform Status and Availability
If you own a PlayStation 4 and want to play the game, physical discs or digital workarounds won't work. The disc won't read in a Sony console drive, and cloud streaming solutions like Xbox Cloud Gaming require compatible devices such as Android, iOS, Windows, or Xbox hardware, rather than native PS4 browser support.
Furthermore, you can no longer purchase digital copies or downloadable expansions for the title anywhere. Microsoft officially delisted Forza Horizon 4 from the Microsoft Store and Steam due to expiring vehicle and soundtrack licensing contracts. Existing owners can still download and play their libraries, but new players cannot buy it legally through official channels.
Top Racing Alternatives on PlayStation 4
Since you can't play Microsoft's open-world festival on a Sony console, the PlayStation library offers several high-tier racing alternatives that match or exceed different aspects of the Forza formula.
- The Crew 2: If your main goal is massive open-world exploration, Ubisoft's open-world racer lets you drive cars, fly planes, and pilot boats across a scaled-down representation of the United States.
- Gran Turismo Sport / Gran Turismo 7: For players prioritizing precise driving physics, car collecting, and structured motorsport culture, Polyphony Digital's flagship franchise delivers unmatched simulation depth on PlayStation hardware.
- Need for Speed Heat: If you prefer illegal street racing, deep vehicle visual customization, and an aggressive police pursuit system, this entry captures an urban arcade energy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I stream Forza Horizon 4 on my PS4 using a web browser?
No. While the PS4 web browser supports basic page navigation, it lacks the necessary video decoding frameworks and secure handshake protocols required to run Xbox Cloud Gaming smoothly.
Will Forza Horizon 4 ever get ported to PlayStation in the future?
Industry trends show Microsoft bringing select older titles to competing platforms, but given that Forza Horizon 4 is permanently delisted due to expired car and music licenses, a new port or platform expansion is off the table.
Are newer Forza games available on PlayStation?
No mainline Forza Motorsport or Forza Horizon title has been released on PlayStation hardware. The franchise remains exclusive to Xbox consoles and PC.
What happens if I already own the game on Xbox or PC?
If you purchased a digital copy before the December 2024 delisting, your license remains active. You can reinstall, update, and play the base game and your owned downloadable content on your Xbox console or Windows PC at any time.
