Game 5 Recap and Final Score
The final box score settled at 10-5 in favor of the visitors, securing the pennant for Los Angeles. The game featured multiple lead changes and defensive battles before the Dodgers' bats broke through in the middle innings.
Tommy Edman earned NLCS MVP honors after driving in crucial runs throughout the series, including a stellar performance in Game 5. The Mets fought valiantly through elimination, fueled by a raucous home crowd at Citi Field, but couldn't slow down the relentless Los Angeles lineup.
Key Innings and Turning Points
The turning point arrived in the third and fourth innings when the Dodgers capitalized on control issues from the Mets' pitching staff.
- A towering home run shifted momentum permanently into the Dodgers' dugout.
- Consecutive RBI singles stretched the lead, forcing New York to burn through its bullpen early.
- Defensive miscues by the Mets compounded their pitching struggles, giving Los Angeles extra breathing room.
New York answered with timely hits in the bottom of the fourth to narrow the gap temporarily. However, the bullpen shutdown held firm, limiting any chance of a late-game Mets comeback.
Dodgers Lineup and Offensive Production
Los Angeles didn't rely on just one bat to secure the pennant. The entire order contributed to the 10-run explosion.
At the top of the order, Ohtani and Betts set the table efficiently, getting on base and putting immediate pressure on the Mets' starter. Clean situational hitting ensured those baserunners crossed the plate.
Pitching Performances
Starting pitching didn't go deep into the night for either side, turning Game 5 into a high-stakes bullpen chess match.
- Los Angeles deployed a string of high-leverage relievers who maintained composure under pressure.
