Catching every snap of the Detroit Lions through audio broadcasts doesn't require living inside Metro Detroit. Whether you're commuting, working, or tuning in from out of state, the official radio network and digital audio platforms deliver live game coverage straight to your device.
Finding a reliable live stream depends on your location and subscription choices. The team's flagship station, WXYT-FM 97.1 The Ticket, anchors a regional network spanning dozens of local radio affiliates across Michigan and parts of Ohio.
Official Flagship Station and Regional Network
The primary radio home for the franchise is WXYT-FM (97.1 The Ticket), broadcasting out of Detroit. For local fans within the broadcast footprint, tuning a standard FM radio or opening the station's digital stream offers free play-by-play coverage.
When you're outside of Southeast Michigan, the Detroit Lions Radio Network features over 50 regional affiliate stations.
- Grand Rapids: WLAV-FM 96.9 or WJRW 1340 AM
- Lansing: WJIM 1240 AM
- Kalamazoo: WKZO 590 AM
- Traverse City: WLDR-FM 101.9
- Toledo (Ohio): WQQO-HD2 105.5 FM
Local broadcast blackout rules apply to digital streaming of live games. If you try to stream the official radio broadcast online through mobile apps while physically located outside the designated local market radius, feeds may restrict access due to NFL broadcasting rights.
Digital Streaming Apps and Subscriptions
When you're miles away from any affiliate tower, digital platforms fill the gap. Official options let you stream the broadcast securely without dealing with static or regional blackouts.
SiriusXM Satellite Radio
SiriusXM carries live game audio for every NFL matchup. Depending on the weekly schedule and home/away designations, Detroit Lions broadcasts air on dedicated team channels or universal game-day channels like Channel 265. Subscribers can listen via car receivers or stream directly through the SiriusXM mobile app.
NFL and TuneIn Options
Official league passes and digital audio aggregators provide alternative pathways. While free internet radio streams on platforms like TuneIn often enforce local market restrictions for live play-by-play, premium tiers or official team apps offer workarounds for dedicated supporters. Check out the Detroit Lions Official Site for up-to-date broadcast partner announcements ahead of kickoff.
On-Air Broadcast Team
Listening to the radio broadcast delivers a distinct experience compared to television viewing, largely driven by the veteran commentary team.
- Play-by-Play: Dan Miller handles the main call, bringing energetic recognition to big plays and scoring drives.
- Color Commentary: Jim Brandstatter provides expert analysis and breakdown.
- Sideline Reports: Tony Ortiz tracks injuries, player reactions, and field-level updates.
Troubleshooting Common Streaming Issues
Trying to load a live audio stream on game day often brings unexpected hurdles. Here's how to fix the most common roadblocks.
- Geo-Blocking Restrictions: If an app displays an error message stating the stream is unavailable in your area, you've hit a regional broadcast restriction. Switch to a national subscription service like SiriusXM to bypass local market limits.
- Audio Delays: Radio broadcasts typically run a few seconds ahead of television feeds, but digital streams over Wi-Fi or cellular data can lag behind live action by 30 to 60 seconds. Pause your TV DVR if you want to sync the radio audio with the picture.
- App Buffering: Official station apps often experience heavy traffic spikes right before kickoff. Close background downloads and ensure your app is updated to the latest version.
