Blox Fruits Race Change: Requirements And Reroll Guide
In this story

Changing your race in Blox Fruits transforms your character's passive bonuses, combat style, and long-term progression. Whether you're stuck with a basic option from your first login or want to pivot your build for high-level PvP, understanding how to switch races saves you time and resources.

Two primary methods let you change your race: paying fragments to an in-game NPC or spending Robux in the shop. Each method has strict requirements, specific costs, and unique limitations regarding which races you can actually acquire.

Methods to Change Your Race

Switching your character's race requires reaching the Second Sea or spending premium currency.

The Tort NPC Method

The primary free-to-play method relies on an NPC named Tort.

  • Location: Find Tort inside the Café in the Second Sea or near the Mansion in the Third Sea.
  • Cost: Each reroll costs 3,000 Fragments.
  • Pool: This reroll randomly assigns one of the four basic races: Human, Rabbit, Shark, or Angel.

Tort cannot give you specialty races like Ghoul, Cyborg, or Draco. Those require completing dedicated quest lines. If you previously unlocked Ghoul or Draco, you can switch back to them for free by visiting their respective NPCs. Switching back to Cyborg costs 2,500 Fragments.

The Roblox Shop Method

If you don't have enough fragments or want an immediate shortcut, you can bypass the NPC requirements entirely.

  • Open the in-game Shop.
  • Navigate to the Products section.
  • Purchase a Race Re-roll for 90 Robux.

This method also yields a random roll among the four basic races and functions identically to the Tort method, just without the fragment grind.

Understanding the Reroll Pool and Restrictions

Many players waste thousands of fragments expecting to roll specialty races like Cyborg or Ghoul from Tort. That doesn't work. The random reroll pool is strictly limited to the four starter races.

If you want a specialty race, you must complete its specific unlock chain first:

  • Ghoul: Gather 100 Ectoplasm from the Cursed Ship and a Hellfire Torch from the Cursed Captain, then trade them to Experimic.
  • Cyborg: Find a Fist of Darkness, trigger the Order Raid at Hot and Cold, and secure a Core Brain drop.
  • Draco: Complete quests at the Dragon Dojo on Hydra Island in the Third Sea.

Once you unlock a specialty race, the game logs it in your account data. You can switch away from it and return later without repeating the entire quest line.

What Happens to Your Race Version Progress?

A common fear when changing races is losing hard-earned progress on V2, V3, or V4 upgrades. Fortunately, Blox Fruits tracks your version history for each individual race.

If you level up an Angel race to V3, then use fragments to switch to Human, your Angel progress isn't deleted. If you roll back to Angel later, you'll find your V3 status waiting for you. You only need to pay the initial upgrade costs once per race.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change my race in the First Sea?

No. Tort only appears in the Second and Third Seas. First Sea players must either use the Robux shop method or wait until they reach level 700+ and transition to the Second Sea.

Do fragments spent on race changes count toward V3 or V4 totals?

No. Fragments spent at Tort are purely for rerolling. They do not contribute to the massive fragment totals required to awaken V4 abilities.

What is the best race for grinding?

Shark is widely considered the safest choice for PvE and general grinding. Its water body passive and damage reduction make boss fights and Sea Beast encounters significantly more manageable.

Why won't Tort give me the Ghoul race?

Tort only distributes Human, Rabbit, Shark, and Angel. Specialty races must be unlocked via their respective hidden puzzles and quests before you can select or return to them.
